What is Healthy Habits Month?
January isn’t just the start of a new year; it’s an opportunity to kick-start your journey towards holistic wellbeing. At Activate Learning, we recognise January as Healthy Habits Month, a dedicated period, focused on nurturing your physical, mental and emotional health.
Amidst the hustle and bustle of a new academic term or work commitments, we recognise the importance of prioritising self-care. That’s why throughout January, we’re committed to empowering our staff and students with resources, tools and guidance to support a healthier lifestyle.
What can you expect?
Throughout January, we have some exciting events and activities across our campuses to help our staff and students practise healthy habits, such as wellbeing walks and healthy living talks. Keep an eye out on our social media channels to stay in the loop.
Taking care of your wellbeing
To help you start the new year off on a positive note, we have compiled some resources to help you focus on your wellbeing.
Having good mental health is very important for our wellbeing. Mental health is a spectrum. Someone can have a mental illness, and good mental health, and someone can have no mental illness and bad mental health. Looking after yourself to remain as mentally fit and well as you can be is very important.
If you recognise that you or one of your friends is lonely, drop into Student Support and have a chat with our friendly team who will listen and support you.
You could also talk about it with someone you trust like a friend, a parent, sibling or a teacher. It’s not always easy to open up, but it helps.
It’s important to understand the relationship between your physical health and mental health. If you have poor physical health, this can lead to an increased risk in developing mental health problems.
Having an active lifestyle can support your mental health. The impact of exercise releases endorphins and in turn, food boosts serotonin production, the chemical that boosts your mood.
Financial wellbeing is about being in control of your finances, managing your expenses and feeling secure about the future. We know that finances can be a big contributor to stress and anxiety, so we have a range of financial support options available for our students.
Keep an eye on our on-campus plasma screens and posters or via Activate Learning’s social media channels to find out more about Healthy Habits Month and what activities and events are going on at your campus!
