Reminder: IT Services Acceptable Use
As we start the new academic year, we’d like to remind you about how to use Activate Learning’s IT services safely and responsibly.
The Acceptable Use Policy applies whenever you use Activate Learning’s devices, Wi-Fi, internet, systems, accounts, networks or equipment. For example, when using a college device, when connected to Activate Learning Wi-Fi or internet, when studying at home using an Activate Learning device or when using your own device on Activate Learning systems.
Your use of Activate Learning IT is monitored
Activate Learning monitors its IT systems, Wi-Fi, networks and internet services to help keep them safe and secure.
We do not monitor your personal device simply because you are using it. However, your use of Activate Learning services may be monitored when you connect your device to Activate Learning Wi-Fi, systems or services. This applies whether you are on campus, at home or studying or working somewhere else.
Keep your account safe
You are responsible for activity carried out using your account.
- Keep your username and password private.
- Never allow someone else to use your account.
- Lock your device when you leave it unattended.
- Never try to access someone else’s account.
- Do not allow others to use your ID card for IT purposes
Use IT responsibly
Activate Learning IT services are provided to support your learning. Do not use them to:
- Search for, access, create, download, store or share inappropriate or illegal material;
- Damage or disrupt Activate Learning systems;
- Install software that has not been approved;
- Try to get around or disable security controls; or
- Do anything that could put other students, staff, or our systems at risk.
Remember to also respect copyright when downloading or sharing content.
Think before you click
Be careful when opening emails, links, attachments or files. If something looks suspicious, don’t click it or forward it – report it.
If you accidentally access inappropriate material, stop and tell your tutor or performance coach. Do not revisit it, download it or share it.
Use AI responsibly
If you use AI tools for your learning, use them responsibly and in line with Activate Learning’s guidance.
Do not share personal, confidential or sensitive information with AI tools.
Your responsibility
Everyone has a part to play in keeping Activate Learning’s systems, information and learning environment safe.
If you misuse IT services, you could lose access to Activate Learning systems and face disciplinary action. Serious or illegal activity may also be reported to the police.
So, think before you click. Keep your account safe. Use IT responsibly, wherever you are studying or working.
