Take part in a pilot research study at Reading College and University Centre

Dear students,

We’re pleased to share an opportunity for students aged 18–30 years old to take part in a pilot research study taking place at Reading College and University Centre.

Supporting this research, into potential biological links to mood disorders, is part of our commitment to support student and staff wellbeing.

A pilot research study into potential biological links to mood disorders

One of our employer partners, Neuro-Bio, a biotechnology company focused on neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, is currently investigating potential biological links to mood disorders, including depression.

Their early research suggests there may be a relationship between the T14/Tau protein ratio (measured using a simple nasal swab) and mood disorders in young people aged 18–30 years old.

Who can take part?

  • Students aged 18–30 years old
  • Staff aged 18–30 years old.

Participation is entirely voluntary.

When and where?

  • Reading College and University Centre
  • Monday 27 April
  • 11.30am–5pm
  • Meet the NeuroBio team in the foyer by reception.

Students must ensure that participation does not clash with lessons, exams, or other commitments. Unfortunately, we are unable to cover travel expenses.

What will happen on the day?

Participants will:

  • Receive and read a full participant information sheet.
  • Have the opportunity to ask questions before signing a consent form.
  • Provide a quick nasal swab sample (similar to a COVID-19 test).

As a thank you, all participants will receive a £10 Amazon voucher.

Why take part?

This is a valuable opportunity for students to:

  • Engage with a live scientific research project.
  • Gain insight into how real-world research studies are conducted.
  • Strengthen their CV or UCAS application through participation in an industry-led study.

We’re proud to support collaborations that give our learners meaningful experiences beyond the classroom.

Thank you for your interest and support.

Kind regards,

Dan Nield
