This course will give you the opportunity to develop the essential, practical skills and knowledge you’ll need for working in an industrial kitchen environment.
What you'll learn
This pathway introduces you to the Hospitality and Catering industry. You will learn basic cooking methods, such as baking, frying, and grilling.
You will develop good knowledge in basic food preparation, cooking, food safety, storage, and serving food and drink. You will also develop essential employability skills and hygienic working practices and perfect the art of preparing fresh, modern, and classic dishes.
You will also gain wider personal development skills vital for success in further study or employment. They include self-confidence, working with others, taking responsibility and time management. By the end of the course you will have benefited from a valuable insight in future study or careers open to you.
How you'll learn and be assessed
You will take part in interactive and fun activities to develop your skills in hospitality and catering.
You will be assessed by creating a folder of evidence for each subject and will be assessed at a level that suits you. Functional skills and GCSE maths and English will be assessed through external examinations.
You will gain a Vocational Certificate in Learning, Employability and Progression on completion of your studies.
Progression
After successfully completing the course, you may move on to a full-time Level 2 course, an apprenticeship, or employment.
Entry requirements
You do not need qualifications to join these pathways. However, you will need a successful interview with a member of the teaching team to show your commitment to full-time study and your interest in the subject.
To apply for this course, you need a basic level of literacy and numeracy. You must also commit to improving your English and maths. Both Functional Skills and GCSE re-sits are offered. We will also expect a satisfactory school report.
As part of your interview we will assess your levels of English and maths and advise you of the most appropriate level to study.
