Skills for Living (T2) is a three-year course tailored for learners aged 16-24 with severe to moderate learning difficulties, offering a high ratio of support to ensure every learner can thrive. The course runs four days a week, from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, and is designed around the Preparing for Adulthood framework and each learner’s EHCP outcomes. Learners will focus on building independence, self-advocacy, social skills, and life skills, while also receiving instruction in literacy and numeracy at levels from Pre-Entry to Entry. Work experience opportunities are integrated to teach work-related skills in a safe, supportive environment.

- Personal development through speech and language support, occupational therapy, and emotional assistance
How you'll learn and be assessed
Learners will work in small groups with a high level of support throughout the day. The curriculum is individualised and incorporates the learner’s EHCP outcomes, with progress tracked in literacy, numeracy, and personal development. A range of professionals, including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and emotional assistants, support the learning process. Facilities such as a physio room and a sensory room are also utilised. Work experience opportunities are available internally to help students develop work-related skills.
Progression
On completing this course, learners can move on to:
- Preparing for Supported Internships
- Community activities
- ACE One-Day programmes (for returning to college one day per week to continue friendships, literacy, numeracy, and creative activities).
Progression routes are explored during annual reviews and align with each student’s EHCP outcomes.
Entry requirements
This course is designed for learners with severe to moderate learning difficulties who have an EHCP. The suitability of applicants will be assessed by the course leader and team based on factors such as tolerance to the learning environment, behaviour, nurture, support needs, and achievable progression routes. Suitability for the course will be assessed by the college SEND team through consultations with the local authority and other professionals involved in the learner’s care.
